It is hardly possible today to surprise anyone with the use of drones in everyday life. They are used by children as toys, as well as adults in different industries and directions. For example in amusement parks, in advertising, for distribution of the Internet, for delivery of small-sized cargo, for video and photography. The functional capabilities of the drones allow them to be used in various ways to make life easier for people.
The use of such robots allows not only to save on financial costs in certain processes, but also in most cases to demonstrate a good result. Therefore, the search for the possibilities of effective use of drones in different types of activities is now continuing. SKYFchain also set this task for itself, which proposes to solve the issue of large-scale logistics, using unmanned vehicles, tied to this blockage.
About the project.
SKYFchain is a Russian project whose goal is to create a block-based platform for the unmanned cargo logistics market. According to the developers, this is the first B2R (Bussines-to-Robots) platform on the block, which will save 50% of logistics costs. One of the problems that the team of this project should solve is the lack of a single database that would collect all the data about each flight of the unmanned vehicle. Initially, the platform will be tested on SKYF drones, which will be provided by SKYF (SKYFchain is a division of SKYF, which develops and manufactures drones). In the future, it is planned to integrate all unmanned vehicles into this system. As it became known, QIWI Blockchain Technologies — the «daughter» of the QIWI group of companies will be responsible for writing the code.
How will this work? The platform will combine information for all participants in the unmanned delivery market and ensure the implementation of smart contracts for transactions. The latter, in turn, will differ depending on the cost and frequency. A commission will be withdrawn from each transaction platform.
Why do we need this platform? SKYFchain will be a kind of base, which will display the necessary information about all participants of the market of unmanned logistics. And with the help of this information, a number of problems will be solved. For example, how to solve the problem of insurance in the event of a catastrophe when an unmanned vehicle is involved. In the process of unmanned operations, there are many interested parties: the manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles, the operator of an unmanned aerial vehicle, a pilot, a drone company, a customer, etc. It often happens that it is difficult to determine from whose fault a disaster occurred. If the insurance company is available all relevant data, they will be able to quickly assess the risks based on the facts, and find the responsible side. Perhaps, in this case, the cost of the insurance policy may decrease, and the insurance payment will be provided faster, since the responsible party will be known.
The use of smart contracts will provide control over unmanned assets for customers, logistics operators, insurance and leasing companies, banks and government agencies around the world. Using the platform will reduce the risks of the transport system for society, and increase the availability of goods or services due to a significant reduction in costs in the overall supply chain.
A few words about SKYF drones. This is an unmanned vehicle with a hybrid gasoline engine that has no competitors. It has the capability of vertical take-off and landing, and also has a high carrying capacity of up to 400 kg / 880 liters, and a range of flight up to 350 km / 220 miles. Dron SKYF is suitable for several market segments such as logistics, agriculture and fire fighting.
The developers claim that using their drones is much more profitable than using other transport vehicles. Comparing the attraction of a helicopter for cargo transportation and SKYF drones, the developers draw our attention to the fact that, for example, the cost of one hour of helicopter flight ranges from 1 thousand dollars to 1,5 thousand dollars, whereas the cost of an hour of a drone’s flight is only 150 dollars .
After implementing the platform for cargo drones, the team plans to integrate into this system and other unmanned robots (land, air, sea). So, the team plans to invite aviation drones from 2020, and sea and land robots, starting from 2022 onwards.
